The Journey A Survivor Takes Is A Choice The Healing...Takes Courage!

Keynote talks on the healing power of humor and finding joy in the journey from grief to growth.
It starts with my book, I Had To Laugh To Live, How Humor Saved My Life. That's where I get the word POWER — think of the magnitude of that word, and how humor gives us back our life.
When we are struggling and we are stuck in challenge and trauma and losses, humor is the distraction reaction that allows our bodies to heal in the midst of our grief.
Humor literally saved my life, and that's what my book is all about. And I'll talk more about the depth of the specifics — such as how the endorphins are released, and how our feel-good emotions allow us a breather, if you will, from the grip of grief around our heart.
Humor is the sugar that helps the medicine — aka grief work — go down.

This is my keynote on the healing power of humor — and it's deeper than "humor heals." Spoken straight from the heart, this talk is cathartic, heartfelt, and real. I lean in as someone who knows what it is to go through something intense — and I speak to the person listening who may be searching for a reason to be here.
One stone, and you never know how many ripples it will create — or whose heart it will touch.
49 minutes. Also Episode 9 of my podcast, "Maureen Joy Healing Journey: Let's Talk."

Grief to Growth..Finding Joy In The Journey is my TED talk. It's about how, even though we experience trauma, grief and cumulative losses, we don't have to stay in the intensity of the pain.
Through our healing work, we can make room for that pain — while we grow through it, and find joy in the journey. We don't negate the pain, we incorporate the grief, and it just becomes a part of our story. It is never who we are.
Sadness and joy can live at the same time in the same heart.
We get to choose, through growth and incorporating empowering tools, how we reconnect — and find purpose. Because the only way out of pain... is through purpose.
